How does battery storage work?
Solar batteries are equipped with intelligent software that recognizes when a solar system is generating more electricity than the home can immediately consume. When this happens, the software instructs the battery to absorb this extra energy. Then, when the home requires more electricity than is immediately available from the solar system, the battery is instructed to deliver the previously stored energy to the point of need. When the battery is depleted, your home will draw power from the utility as usual, and the battery will recharge the next day.
What is energy storage (or a solar battery)?
The primary challenge for solar power is that the sun is an intermittent source of energy — the sun is available for a finite amount of time each day, and its peak output varies during daylight hours. Without a battery solution, solar customers must either immediately consume the energy generated by their systems, or send the excess energy back to the grid. With a battery technology in place, customers can automatically store their excess solar energy for use at a later time.
When does a battery storage solution pay off?
While peak solar energy generation occurs during the day, the majority of homes require more electricity during the morning and evening hours. Without an integrated battery solution, any excess energy generated by your solar system will be sent immediately back to the electrical grid. You will be remunerated for this contribution, but at a low rate. Incorporating a battery into a solar system helps customers achieve the full economic benefits of clean energy by capturing excess generation for later use and avoiding higher rates for electricity from the grid.
How does the installation process work?
Before installation, the Younergy team will work with you to determine which battery technology is right for your home. We offer both AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) energy storage systems, which use different inverter configurations to enable the safe, efficient flow of energy across your solar system, your battery, and your home.
